Lewisville standoff ends with empty home
09:43 PM CST on Wednesday, January 2, 2008
A seven-hour standoff in Lewisville ended when police entered the home to find it was empty.
Police surrounded an area they believed might have been a possible hiding spot for a man suspected of murdering his two teenage daughters, who were both found shot to death in their father's taxi cab just outside the Omni Mandaly Hotel at Las Colinas.
Tactical officers wore body armor, brandished shields and sealed off the entire 1000 block of Lakeland Drive, which was where they moved in on a one-story frame house that authorities said is the home of 50-year-old Yaser Abdel Said, the suspect.
While the standoff ended with no sign of Said, police said they are still searching for a motive that may have led the father to possibly murder his two teenage daughters, one of whom called 911 from a cell phone near the spot where the girls were later found.
Police said they are looking into the possibility that the father was upset with his daughters dating activities.
"It's something well worth looking into," said OFC David Tull of Irving Police.
The man's wife is fully cooperating with inquiries, police said.
The murder investigation all began at about 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, when Irving police said they received a 911 call from a woman saying she was shot, but said she couldn't say where she was located. The call originated near O’Connor Road and Riverside Drive, which is where officers were sent, but were unable to locate anything suspicious.
An hour later, police received another call from someone reporting a suspicious taxicab in a parking lot in the 200 block of Las Colinas Boulevard, which is about a half-mile from where the victim called. Inside, police said they found Sarah Yaser Said, 17, and her sister Amina Yaser Said, 18, both of Lewisville.
It was unclear which woman made the 911 call. Anyone with information about the slayings should call Irving police at 972-721-2518.
