DALLAS - A doorman was killed in downtown Dallas on Friday.

Bobby Washington, 27, of Dallas was shot dead, as he manned the door at the 1700 Commerce Place building, across from Neiman Marcus. A private party was taking place at the location at the time.

Police are questioning people to find out the motive for the killing.

No suspects have been identified.

His mother, Diana Ray, is stunned today.

Washington had just started his first shift on his first day at a new job.

"He was just trying to make some money to take care of his family," she said.

A wife and four kids at home, his mother says Washington was excited to start the new job.

And she'd expected to get a call about his first day, just not the one she got.

"This was the last thing that we expected to hear," she said.

Washington was hired to work the door and elevators for a private party in a penthouse apartment.

Police say at this point, they're not sure what took place between Washington and his killer before shots were fired.

They hope, however, that surveillance video from both inside and outside the building will shed light on what happened and who did this.

While police work all angles, Washington's family is working to stay strong.

They are leaning on faith to forge through this tragic time.

Through the pain though, Washington's mother says she's not angry or bitter but hopeful.

"I'm praying for them as well that they will find peace and find God," she said.

"I hope that the people that did this realize what they took away from us," she added.

The family has set up a fund: Bank of America B Washington’s Family Assistance Fund.
