Reunion Tower to close for renovations

DALLAS — If you haven’t visited Reunion Tower in Dallas, this week is your last chance for a while.
The 50-story tall Dallas landmark will temporarily close its doors for year-long renovations which begin Friday.
The estimated 12- to 14- month closure is the first extensive shutdown in the tower’s 29-year history. The $55 million renovations will shut down the observation deck, which has for years provided sweeping views of the city, and affect the neighboring Hyatt Regency Dallas hotel and Union Station.
Antares restaurant, located in the tower, will close its doors after serving its last dinner guests Thursday, said hotel spokeswoman Priscilla Hagstrom. But the restaurant would still offer its holiday brunches in another part of the hotel.
The Dome lounge will also close its doors in the tower.
The lights on the tower’s globe, however, will not dim. Ms. Hagstrom said renovations would only affect the structure’s interior.
When the tower reopens in 2008, Antares and Dome will be combined on the tower’s top level.
