updated DALLAS - A routine traffic stop turned into a dangerous chase after a Dallas man took off in his car and drove down residential streets and onto Highway 75 to allegedly get his sick cat to a pet hospital.

The chase began in Garland and reached speeds as high as 90 mph. Once Teague reached McKinney, he turned his vehicle back around and headed south until the chase ended in Richardson after stop-sticks blew out his tire.

"About that time, here he comes around the corner," said Steve Cantrell, a witness. "Like I said, the smoke was pouring off his tires and the tire was getting torn up. He got held up by traffic and then they boxed him in all at one time."

After the hour-long chase ended, officers did remove a cat, pet carrier and some cat food from Ron Teague's vehicle after they pushed him to the ground and cuffed his hands.

"My cat's dying," Teague said. "I'm pretty upset."

When asked why he didn't stop, authorities said Teague told them he had hoped the police would just quit following him.

While the cat was put in the custody of Animal Control, neighbors at Teague's Dallas home said he actually owns dozens of cats and at least a dozen dogs.

Neighbors also said Teague has had frequent conflicts with residents. One neighbor, Pam Hart, said she actually called police on Teague at one time and accused him of trapping her cat and keeping the animal in his house.

"Violent," Hart said of Teague. "He's threatened her daughter, threatened me, threatened other rescue people."

Workers at local animal shelters said they also know Teague well.

The SPCA said it's investigating an active complaint against him for keeping a large number of animals. Operation Kindness said he became belligerent after he tried to get cats from them in May but was turned away because he is banned from adopting their animals.

Meanwhile, Hart said she feels safer since Teague's arrest.

"I feel better, but I want somebody to get those animals out of next door," she said.
