USPS steps up after 5 weeks of no mail for residents

Through rain, sleet or snow, residents expect to get their mail.
However, mailboxes at La Villita Las Colinas haven't seen any deliveries. In fact, one homeowner, Misty Broome, said she hasn't received one piece of mail since she and her husband moved into the neighborhood five weeks ago.
"I felt like I'll be a reasonable person, maybe a week, maybe two weeks," she said. "But at the two-week point, I really started taking it seriously."
She isn't alone. Other residents have grown concerned after receiving no mail and never seeing an actual mail carrier on the property.
The United State's Postal Service took the blame officially Monday.
"This is an isolated incident because several factors interrupted delivery," said McKinney Boyd, a U.S.P.S. spokesperson.
When any new construction begins, Boyd said the postal service is obligated to contact the owner or builder to ensure adequate postal service is scheduled. Somehow along the line, he said the system broke down. Rain, busy contractors and construction rubble were cited as main factors.
"Unfortunately, we should have taken the necessary initiative beforehand and talked to the developer to say, 'Guess what, it's difficult for our carrier to get past all the debris, all this mud. We need a clear path so that we can deliver these three or four families their mail,'" Boyd said. "So, we took that initiative last week and we're delivering their mail today."
Boyd said he guarantees the mail will arrive within 24 hours in its entirety for each and every customer waiting amid the construction debris.
