09:54 AM CDT on Wednesday, July 11, 2007
A 4-year-old boy died Tuesday after he was hanged on the straps of a trampoline in West Harris County, near Houston.
The boy was caught up in the trampoline at a home in the 27400 block of FM 529 near Katy. The boy was taken by Life Flight to Memorial Hermann Hospital where he died.
The boy had asked his mother if he could go out and play on the trampoline located in the front yard of the family's home, which is near the Harris and Waller County border.
A short time later the mother came out and found the boy dangling by his neck from a strap that was part of the trampoline's side safety netting.
Just last week that 11 News reported on a new study that found the number of children hurt or killed in trampoline accidents was on the increase. A study by the American Academy of Pediatrics found that 100,000 injuries on trampolines happen each year.
Most of those hurt are children. Texas Children's Hospital told 11 News that 20 percent to 30 percent of the child injuries they see in the emergency room are related to trampoline injuries.
