Man gets porn shock at gas pump
12:15 PM CST on Saturday, March 3, 2007
It started like any other day for Bill Coltrin.
Filling up his gas can so he could mow lawns and make money.
"I filled it up according to their pump with one gallon but I had a little over a half a gallon in my can," he said.
So, he went in to complain to the manager, eventually coming back out to find a number on the pump.
"But when he went to dial the number, he didn't get the TCEQ help line, he got a gay sex chat line.
"Hey man, what's up? Never mind, I know what it is and I can help you take care of it," a man answered.
"I was totally blown away and shocked," Coltrin said.
And this is not the only gas station.
We found the number on pumps in Grapevine, Irving, Dallas and Fort Worth.
We confronted some station managers to see if they were aware of the mistake.
Sunil Gautam, store manager, had no idea.
Neither did another store manager J.K. Shrestha.
"I'm just wondering why they didn't contact us. They should have notified us about it," he said.
But officials with the TCEQ told us:
"Gas stations statewide were given notice of the program and number being dropped years ago. Unfortunately, it seems many of them have still not gotten around to taking the stickers off of their pumps. TCEQ has no control over who gets the number after us."
Still, Coltrin worries, if more gas stations don't take action, more people will get the lewd surprise he did.
