Pumps and Pasta, Wedges and Wine
Grotto Ristorante launches first "Cuisine and Culture Course” with food and fashion demonstration.
Combining elegance with indulgence, Grotto Ristorante announces a series of monthly Italian culinary classes involving Italian wine, food and culture. Each class, instructed by Grotto Executive Chef Tommaso Lestingi, will include a chef’s demonstration of four dishes followed by a four-course meal, wine-flight trio, a grappa finale and a special guest to discuss Italy’s finer things in life from fashion and music to history and art. The first class, which is from 10 am – 12:30 pm on Saturday, June 30, will feature shoe designer Krista de la Harpe of Krista de la Harpe Design Ltd. to discuss the sexy, smart and sophisticated design of Italian shoes, known to have the best in detail, structure, style and luxurious leather. Cost is $55 per person with a limit of 12 people. Reservations are required by calling 214.954.4461.
Known for his passion and fiery Italian spirit, guests will be educated and entertained as Chef Tommaso Lestingi demonstrates how to make dishes from the Apulia region of his native country. Saturday’s dishes will feature Insalata Carciofi (fresh artichoke salad), Orecchiette e Cime (seafood and pasta entrée served in a white wine sauce), Pesce al Sale (baked Striped Bass with herb seasoning), and Pollo Cacciatore (baked chicken with fresh vegetables in a white wine sauce). Guests will also be inspired to start their own wine cellars after comparing and contrasting the distinct nuances of flavors with Grotto’s wine-flight trios and grappa finale, a fiery and tasty, uniquely Italian, after dinner drink.
Italian footwear has always been synonymous with outstanding beauty and quality workmanship using the softest leather available. Shoe designer Krista de la Harpe, who has trained in Italy for five years, will discuss fine Italian shoes that make a definite fashion statement.
About Tommaso Lestingi
Born in a little town in Italy called Conversano di Bari in the Apulia region (known as the “California of Italy” because of the similar food ingredients and wine), Chef Tommaso attended a five-year training program at the Istituto Alberghiero di Castellana Grotte, a culinary school in the southern port of Italy. For eight years following graduation, Chef Tommaso traveled throughout Italy, Greece and France where he developed his newly acquired skills in several excellent hotel restaurants. Eventually settling in Houston, he worked at Arcodoro Ristoranti Italiano for seven years before opening his own Houston restaurant, Vizio (Italian for “addiction”). Tommaso’s passion and detail along with his fiery Italian spirit, makes him a perfect fit for Grotto Ristorante. Each work day, Chef Tommaso is transported back to the cozy setting of a trattoria in his old Country while serving his customers authentic Italian cuisine in an entertaining atmosphere. He and his staff always prepare food with love and respect, highlighting its natural taste rather than blurring the flavor with a lot of ingredients. While the menu is constantly evolving based on the season and availability of superb ingredients, they also consistently offer standard favorites that patrons enjoy and expect.
About Krista de la Harpe
Beauty and comfort are the primary focus of every shoe created by Dallas shoe designer Krista de la Harpe. Krista has been designing shoes for 10 years, five of them in Italy. Her day, evening and travel shoes, sandals and boots are chic and beautiful, yet are surprisingly comfortable. Krista has won several design awards and entrepreneur honors. Krista's approach to shoe design is one of aesthetics, knowledge of a woman's foot structure and a genuine concern for her customers' comfort, safety and beauty. Like two feet, her shoes are always a combination of two things: they look great and feel good. “My shoes are beautiful and flattering, as well as, functional and elegant,” she says. “I keep to a color palette that is versatile to a women's wardrobe. I focus on the lifestyles of women and create shoes that serve two fundamental functions: walking and standing. It is astonishing how many shoes out there disable so many modern women.” Krista has a trained eye, and if you are in the same room with her, she can tell if you are enjoying your shoes.
