'Twilight'

Twilight has arrived, and it's a faithful, entertaining, moviegoing event for teenagers.

Bella, played by Kristen Stewart, plays the new girl at school where she meets Edward, the peculiar vampire, played well by British actor Robert Pattinson. You can feel the teen angst a mile away.

You might call this Dawson's Creek meets Bram Stoker, as the vampire introduces the human to his world — and it's a scary, odd place.

This is not a movie about teen sex or promiscuity; it's about love, desire and the ability to say "no."

Twilight is directed with an uneven touch by Texas filmmaker Catherine Hardwick; she directed Thirteen and The Nativity.

She's taken an immensely popular book and fleshed it out with interesting characters. What starts out a bit contrived grows stronger and more fascinating with every scene.

Twilight is rated PG-13, and will work wonders for fans of the book. It also sets up nicely for an even better part two.

As for parents of 13-year-olds, get out of the way — the Twilight freight train is coming through.
