Kevin Summers said he discovered the body after his foot hit it while he was swimming in the pool.
Dallas police were investigating what appeared to be a drowning at an apartment pool late Wednesday afternoon at the Honey Creek Apartments in the 11600 block of Ferguson Road near the Garland city line.
Divers from Dallas Fire-Rescue retrieved the body of a 16-year-old male, who was identified by family members, from the bottom of the swimming pool.
Authorities were unsure how long the teen's body was in the pool, or the exact circumstances of his death, and said they had no witnesses yet.
The young man who found the body said he was going for a swim when he made the discovery around 2:00 p.m.
"My feet hit the body and I was like, 'Dang, what's there,'" said Kevin Summers. "I thought someone threw a table or something into the pool and I went in there with my little goggles."
Dallas Fire-Rescue Lt. Joel Lavender said the pool's murky water may have prevented passers-by from seeing the body sooner.
Sgt. Gary Beck said there will be more answers after an autopsy is performed on the body.
