Kim Brimer, candidate for senate district 10 seat

Texas state senators rarely lose their re-election bids but Tarrant County Democrats hope to change that this year.
Former Fort Worth city council member, Wendy Davis, is running against Republican incumbent, Kim Brimer, for the senate district 10 seat.
However, Brimer may be vulnerable.
Republican state senator Kim Brimer chews a cigar on the senate floor.
But he's not chomping to campaign much yet for re-election.
He's the only candidate to decline a News 8 on camera interview on his record.
Brimer served in the Texas House from 1988 to 2002 when voters elected him to the Senate.
He's been a big supporter of tax breaks and financial incentives for big business.
But also helped pass the new business tax to relieve school property taxes.
Democrats believe population shifts in the Tarrant County district made it less Republican, leaving Brimer vulnerable.
Plus, Democrats say polls show his name ID with voters is low.
The take of his Democratic challenger, Wendy Davis: "This is a person who's been representing special interests."
But Brimer has $1.4 million in campaign funds, a million more than Davis.
And a strong ad campaign could make him more familiar.
