Eastern Ill. to honor Tony Romo
02:24 PM CDT on Wednesday, July 8, 2009
CHARLESTON, Ill. — Eastern Illinois will induct the man who's almost certainly the school's most famous former football player into its Hall of Fame this fall, and welcome him back to campus.
Dallas Cowboy quarterback and former Panther Tony Romo will become a part of the school's Hall of Fame Oct. 17.
That's homecoming for Eastern and, as it happens, an off weekend for the Cowboys.
EIU Associate Athletics Director John Smith says Romo plans to be there, barring injury or something else unexpected.
Smith says the school is very lucky the dates fall the way they do.
Romo quarterbacked the Panthers to the playoffs in 2000, 2001 and 2002. He joined the Cowboys as an undrafted free agent.
