The Dallas Cowboys left FedEx Field in Washington after defeating the Redskins 14-10 Sunday night, elated.

"You gotta fight for everything you get around here," said center Andre Gurode.

Said tackle Marc Colombo, "Felt good to get a 'W' here."

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones called it an omen because Dallas hadn't won in Washington since 2004.

It was a great way to start things off after the bye week. Now we'll see it means they have turned the corner.

"It was exciting in an important situation to be able to prove to ourselves that we can be very resilient and play when it counts in a tough situation and finish a football game," said quarterback Tony Romo, who was playing his first game in more than a month after injuring his right pinkie finger.

Without Romo, Dallas had lost it way the last few weeks.

Four weeks ago, the offense scored 14 points against St Louis and lost.

Two weeks later, they scored 14 against the New York Giants and lost there as well.

Sunday in Washington, 14-points was enough for a win.

"It helps when you've got Marion Barber running the ball on the other side, that helps any defense," said linebacker Zach Thomas. "That's the best defense when the offense is running the ball and running the clock and I felt like we weren't out on the field a lot."

A fourth down call to seal the game in the fourth quarter turned out to be a piece of cake.

Cowboys tight end Martellus Bennett scores a touchdown against Redskins safety Chris Horton, left, and safety LaRon Landry Sunday.

"We literally didn't have to block those defensive lineman," said tackle Leonard Davis. "I'm serious. We didn't have to block those guys. We could have whiffed all up and down the line and he would still have made it, just because of the way they were lined up."

Tight end Martellus Bennett scored the game winning touchdown and shortly after, was on the phone with assistant coach John Garrett, or was it someone else.

"I thought it was Obama for a second," Bennett said. "I thought he was chilling at the White House, giving me a call. I was looking forward to it, but it wasn't him."

But it seemed the Cowboys answered the call.
