FORT WORTH – The veteran and the kid took centerstage Sunday at the Tuff Hedeman Championship Challenge Bull Riding at Will Rogers Coliseum.

Reigning world champion B.J. Schumacher and newcomer Pistol Robinson turned in impressive performances in the championship round to share the title with 263.5 points on three bulls.

Schumacher walked off with $19,252 in earnings, and Robinson took home $16,128.

Schumacher, from Hillsboro, Wis., clinched his share of the title by riding Biloxi Blues, the Championship Bull Riders's Bull of the Year and the Bucking Bull of the Year at the 2005 Wrangler National Finals Rodeo.

"He's a great bull. I had never been on him, but [traveling partner] Fred [Boettcher] had him at the NFR, and I paid a lot of attention," Schumacher said after marking a 90-point ride. "I remembered that ride, and I kinda went on from that. He gets stronger the longer the ride goes."

Schumacher, a five-time Wrangler National Finals Rodeo qualifier, has had an incredible run. Not only did he win the world championship at last year's NFR, he won $56,000 at RodeoHouston in March to take a comfortable lead in the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association's world standings.

His earnings this weekend, however, will not be applied to the PRCA standings since it didn't sanction the event.

Robinson, from Burleson, is still trying to cut his teeth in the pro ranks. He won the steer riding here in 1995 and had fond memories of the time.

"I was like a kid in the candy store then when I was 11," Robinson said. "Being here with Tuff [Hedeman], Ty [Murray], Aaron [Semas] and all of them, I just couldn't believe it. Now I'm one of them. That's just awesome."

He proved, however, that he possesses a large amount of ability in the final round when he turned in an 88.5-point ride on Robbie Harrington's Buckshot.

"I'd never been on the bull," Robinson said. "But I was told he would go to the right. I waited a little bit, but he eventually went to the right."

Robinson's win Sunday was his first at a major event. "I placed second at two CBR events last year," he said. "But this year I haven't been able to put it together."

Dallas' Bryan Richardson, who pulled a groin muscle Saturday while recording an 88.5, sat out Sunday. He earned $5,987.
