FC Dallas' Cunningham quick to make impact

Jeff Cunningham, the newest member of FC Dallas' strike force, had little difficulty adjusting to his new team. It helps when you have Kenny Cooper as a teammate. "All defenders in the league mark him," Cunningham said. "So that makes it easier for me."

Club Deportivo Independiente embarrassed the competition by outscoring opponents, 67-1, in six games, including a 10-0 win over Arsenal in the Copa Al Dia under-14 division final Sunday at Lewisville's Bob Wiseman Soccer Complex.

Jeff Cunningham barely had time to break in his No. 9 red and white hoops jersey before netting his 100th career goal in his FC Dallas debut Saturday night. Unfortunately for Dallas, Cunningham's goal was the team's only score in a 2-1 loss to the Columbus Crew.

General manager Michael Hitchcock announced Saturday that FC Dallas will face Mexico's popular Club America in an international friendly match Sunday, Sept. 7 at Pizza Hut Park.

FC Dallas signed striker Jeff Cunningham and Dutch left winger Victor Sikora last week to stimulate the team's offensive attack. The match today (6:30 p.m., FSC/FSE) at Columbus could be a special one for Cunningham, who is fourth on MLS' all-time list with 99 career goals.

Two consecutive victories and the addition of two veteran players to his attack have given FC Dallas coach Schellas Hyndman reasons to be optimistic. But the injury to his captain and defensive leader, centerback Duilio Davino, is worrisome, the coach said.
