Scouting the Stars

Player to watch: LW Brenden Morrow had a short-handed goal and an even-strength goal Friday and was the best forward on the ice. Dallas will need his grittiness against Detroit.

Key stat: Opponents aren't getting many shots on goal against Dallas (Anaheim had 26 Friday). The Stars lead the league in fewest shots allowed at 25.1 per game.

Notable: Dallas hasn't beaten Detroit since Jan. 16, 2002. Dave Tippett is winless in nine games against the Wings as a head coach (0-2-2 at Joe Louis Arena). ... RW Bill Guerin played just 53 seconds against Anaheim before a game misconduct sent him to the showers. He has two goals in his last 20 games.

Injuries: None.

Scouting the Red Wings

Player to watch: D Nicklas Lidstrom had two power-play goals in Detroit's 3-1 win over Nashville on Friday. He has four goals and two assists and is plus-3 in his last four games.

Key stat: Detroit leads the Western Conference in scoring at 3.71 per game and is second at 2.56 goals against. That's a goal differential of 1.15, second to only Ottawa.

Notable: Coach Mike Babcock said Friday that he expects Chris Osgood to start in goal. ... Steve Yzerman's assist Friday tied him with Gordie Howe for seventh on the NHL's all-time list (1,049).

Injuries: C Johan Franzen (upper body) is day-to-day. D Niklas Kronwall (knee) and DE Jiri Fischer (seizure) are out.
