Softball roundup: Elysian Fields back

AUSTIN – Baylee Hickey struck out nine and pitched a complete game to help lead defending Class 2A state champion Elysian Fields to a 7-1 victory over Coahoma on Thursday.

Elysian Fields (26-7) will face Weimar, a 3-2 winner over Celina, in the final Saturday. Coahoma finished the season 28-12-2.

Elysian Fields shortstop Amanda Busby led the offense with three hits while Kristy Kelly, Mary Lawless and Morgan Struwe had two hits each for the Yellowjackets.

High Schools

Right fielder Lauren Butler scored two runs for the Yellowjackets and made a running shoestring catch for the final out of the game.

Hickey scattered five hits despite pitching in a steady drizzle. Hickey walked a season-high four batters.

Coahoma took a 1-0 first inning lead.

Collinsville, Eula to meet for 1A title: Ashley Hillin had three hits and was the winning pitcher in Eula's 6-2 victory against Shiner in the semifinals of the Class 1A tournament.

Eula (26-5) and Collinsville (27-1), which defeated Dallardsville Big Sandy 9-2 in the other semifinal, are first-time winners at the state tournament and will play for the title Saturday.

Hillin (23-4) scattered eight hits and got help from shortstop Courtney Clark, who had two hits and scored three runs. Shiner (20-5-1) committed six errors that helped lead to five unearned runs.

Collinsville's Brittaney Ross (13-1) allowed five hits while striking out three and walking four.
