Recruiting buzz: Offers roll in for new Heath LB
07:30 PM CST on Wednesday, March 5, 2008
Standout linebacker Austin Moss is changing high schools, but he hasn't slipped from college coaches' radar.
Moss, who is moving from South Garland to join his father – new Rockwall-Heath coach Mickey Moss – is one of the top defensive recruits in the state. And he's getting the attention to prove it.
Moss (6-3, 208) has offers from Virginia, Wisconsin, Kansas State, Kansas, Iowa State, Louisville and Cincinnati. He has been to Junior Days at Texas and Texas A&M. And Oklahoma has long been considered the frontrunner for Moss.
Oh, and his father was a graduate assistant for the Longhorns.
So what is the younger Moss thinking?
"I'm still really open-minded about it all," he said. "You could say that, when it comes down to it all, it doesn't have to be just OU."
Plano East RB getting attention: Plano East running back Toben Opurum already has offers from Kansas, Wake Forest and Tulsa, coach Johnny Ringo said.
Opurum (6-2, 230) had 99 carries for 600 yards and four touchdowns last season. He also had 27 receptions for 574 yards and six touchdowns, leading his team with 21.3 yards per catch.
Plano East senior wide receiver Kevin Dillon signed with Missouri Rolla.
