The Dallas Mavericks' inconsistent offense received a much-needed shot of energy Saturday night with the return of swingman Josh Howard. Howard made his season debut and helped spark a 129-101 rout over the Toronto Raptors at the American Airlines Center in the Mavericks' most complete game of the season.

The Dallas Mavericks, slumbering for three quarters, awoke in record-setting fashion in the fourth quarter Tuesday night. Dirk Nowitzki scored a record 29 of the Mavericks' 44 points in the period as Dallas rallied from a 16-point deficit to defeat the Utah Jazz, 96-85.

Mavericks remain mum on alleged slur by Gooden
While the subject of an alleged homophobic slur by Drew Gooden continued to fan his own flames Tuesday, the Mavericks stayed silent, and the NBA opened a review of the situation, although it's difficult to see any substantial penalty forthcoming from the incident.

The Washington Wizards rolled out of town with a 102-91 victory over the Dallas Mavericks on Tuesday night at American Airlines Center, spoiling the debut of Shawn Marion and Drew Gooden, and conjuring up memories of last year's dreadful Mavericks start.

Marion can do more – and will have to
If the Mavericks can get 50 points a night out of Dirk Nowitzki and Shawn Marion, they'll be thrilled with their new forward tandem, writes Eddie Sefko. But they can't have Nowitzki score 34 of them and expect it to add up to a victory.
