Scouting the Timberwolves

They have started to play better after breaking a 13-game losing streak last week, but they lost by 24 points to Orlando, at home, no less. ... They played another home game Monday night against Memphis, so fatigue could be a factor. ... To beat the Timberwolves, hold them under 100 points. They are 1-17 when they fail to reach the century mark. Of course, they're only 4-7 when they hit 100. ... Randy Foye has picked up his play, averaging 23 points in the last three games before Monday. ... Al Jefferson continues to be their cornerstone, averaging just over 22 points and 10 rebounds.

Scouting the Mavericks

They will welcome back Dirk "The Enforcer" Nowitzki after a one-game suspension for flinging a backhand punch at Utah's Matt Harpring on Friday. ... In his absence, Josh Howard scored 29 points against the LA Clippers. It will be interesting to see if this is the start of one of Howard's hot streaks. ... They have been rebounding demons of late, outrebounding opponents in four of the last five games by an average of almost eight per game. ... They are 10-0 when they hold opponents to under 90 points.
