Tommy Hunter earned his first career victory on his 23rd birthday, Hank Blalock homered and the Texas Rangers won their third in a row, beating the Tampa Bay Rays 3-1 Friday night. Hunter allowed three hits and struck out five in 5 1/3 innings to help slow down baseball's top-scoring offense.

As bad as things are going for the Texas Rangers offense, at least the defense had been dependable in the team's current slide. That changed Sunday. Two makeable plays weren't made, and an Elvis Andrus throwing error helped the Giants defeat the Rangers, 3-2, and complete a three-game sweep at AT&T Park.
