DALLAS - President George Bush and Laura Bush will soon transition from first family to private citizens in just over a week.

In a News 8 interview at the White House Monday, both said they're looking forward to living in the house they just bought in Dallas.

“A leap of faith,” President Bush told News 8 on his decision to move into the house he's never seen.

He said he just left it up to his wife.

“My attitude was if you want a house in Dallas in the area where she wanted, go find one and let's go move into it,” he said.

Mrs. Bush calls the home on Daria Place, a cul-de-sac in North Dallas, "the perfect house."

“It's on a pretty quiet street, and I think the set up of it - the actual floor plan of it - is nice for empty nesters,” she said.

But the quiet neighborhood they're hoping for isn't so quiet at the moment.

Cars have been seen continuously driving up and down the streets leading up to the Bush house.

On Wednesday, the Dallas City Council will likely approve installing a gate on Daria Drive to control traffic. The gate will be paid for by a trust run by the Bush's accountant and not the city.

Neighbors, especially those with children like Christine Postolos, said they are grateful.

“You know, you just want to feel like they can ride their bikes around," she said. "So, it will be better to have it, a little safer and a little quieter.”

Beyond the sightseers, Postolos said neighbors are glad the Bushes are coming.

“There has been a lot of good feeling about it," she said. "It's been fun. It's been a little chaotic with all the traffic; but my family, we're very excited about them coming.”

Mrs. Bush said after they move in they'll be up and down the street, too.

“You'll start seeing us at restaurants a lot, just like people did before we moved to Austin," she said. "And I'm looking forward to that.”

Once the gate is up, Dallas police will provide around the clock security.

The city said the cost hasn't been determined yet and neither has who will cover it.
