CRIME SPREE

Rebecca Lopez reports

DALLAS - Police have released video of a violent crime spree in hopes to catch the men behind the Dallas attacks.

Robbers targeted four people Saturday night, and one of those beatings was captured on video.

Artenio Zarate was targeted as he came out of a gas station on Hampton Road. Video shows Zarate being beaten by a bat even as he tries to hand over his wallet and keys.

"They hit me on the head with a bat, and they hit me three times," he said. "And then I was able to escape and just ran."

Zarate managed to get away and ran bleeding back inside the gas station.

"There was a lot of blood," he said.

Zarate, who now has dozens of staples in his head, said the attack took place just after he withdrew money and was headed to work.

Police say he isn't the only victim. The robbers attacked three other people. In one case, the man was kidnapped. His hands were duck taped and they kept threatening to kill him.

"They are very violent," said Andrew Harvey, Dallas Police Department. "They are beating people up. [These are] dangerous people."

Police said they believe the men may be linked to other crimes besides the ones that occurred Saturday in Oak Cliff.
