Fort Worth rejects natural gas drilling bid
06:44 AM CDT on Wednesday, October 8, 2008
FORT WORTH — Neighbors of Fort Worth's historic 8th Avenue have declared victory in their battle against a proposed natural gas well.
Late Tuesday night, the City Council unanimously rejected Chesapeake Energy's request for a high-impact well drilling permit.
Opponents said the location near Elizabeth Boulevard was too close to homes, and could set a precedent that any vacant land could become a drill site.
It's the first time the Council has rejected an energy company's request for such a permit.
