DALLAS — After police searched for a two-year-old girl by ground and air for at least eight hours, the child returned home late Monday night with her mother, who apparently knew nothing of the missing report.

Authorities were notified at 2:30 p.m. of a missing child, Eliana Harris, who family members said believed may have wandered off from their home in the 2800 block of Alaska Avenue in Oak Cliff.

Authorities said Eliana was in the care of her grandmother, aunt and uncle at the time of her disappearance.

As hours passed, authorities also began searching for the child's mother, who also lives at the home, after they began to suspect she may have taken the child without telling other family members.

Late Monday night, the mother drove up to the house with Eliana in the car. Sgt. Gil Cerda, with the Dallas Police Department, said the mother was unaware anyone was looking for her and the child.

"I just want to thank everybody for helping me find my daughter," said Joseph Harris, Eliana's dad. "I'm happy she's home and thank everybody for the hard work — and God."

Sgt. Cerda said no charges will be filed.
