DALLAS - Air quality has become a concern as a fire, which began shortly after 6 p.m. Wednesday, continued to blaze late into the night at a scrap metal yard in the 4300 block of South Lamar Street.

Dallas police evacuated about four to six blocks as the Environmental Protection Agency tested the air quality.

Large plumes of black smoke billowed into the air as the fire consumed a pile of scrap metal about 40-foot high by 80 foot wide.

While the fire appeared to be contained at 10 p.m., the thick smoke spread concern among authorities.

As of 10 p.m., no results were available from the EPA tests.
