Tarrant sheriff injured in home accident
12:51 PM CDT on Thursday, July 17, 2008
FORT WORTH — Tarrant County Sheriff Dee Anderson remained hospitalized today after falling through the ceiling at his home while making repairs in his attic.
The 52-year-old sheriff had just returned from vacation in the Dominican Republic with his family Saturday when he noticed one of the air conditioning units was out, said Sandra Colwell, Sheriff Anderson’s executive secretary.
“He went up to flip a switch and never got to the switch,” Ms. Colwell said.
The plywood gave way and Sheriff Anderson fell through his home’s high ceiling onto a tile floor, fracturing his wrist in two places.
“They’re trying to get the ceiling fixed before he comes home so he doesn’t have to look up and remember it,” said Ms. Colwell, who visited him Tuesday and said he’s doing well.
In his absence, executive chiefs Bob Knowles and Mike Johnston are splitting his duties as though he was still on vacation.
“We’re all relieved that he’s OK and we’re going to take care of business until he gets back,” Ms. Colwell said.
He is to be released from the hospital later this week.
