Boy Scout trip uncertain after trailer theft

RICHARDSON - A troop of Richardson Boy Scouts may miss an upcoming campout after they fell victim to theft.
Troop 728's trailer was broken into on the campus of St. Paul the Apostle School in Richardson.
“I just couldn't believe that someone would break into a scout trailer when they knew it was scouts,” said scout Luke Davis.
Scoutmaster Mike Koenecke said he believes the thieves might be boys themselves.
“It would be a lot nicer to have them in the troop learning leadership and responsibility rather than out here breaking into it,” he said.
Since their cooking equipment, first aid items, lanterns and tents were all stolen from the trailer, the troop said they may not be able to go on their next planned camping trip.
However, the boys are working to make the most of old equipment and matching spare tent poles to old tents to make due.
They hope to raise enough money to buy what’s needed before the planned outing, which is May 16.
