DALLAS - For 23 days in 2002, the so-called "Beltway Sniper" terrorized parts of Washington, D.C., Maryland and Virgina. Now, nearly six years later, another part of the story is being revealed.

Ten people were killed and three injured during the attacks. The shootings had people panicked for weeks and even had them scared to get out of their cars at gas stations.

John Allen Muhammed and Lee Boyd Malvo were convicted for the shootings.

Now, a new side to the story has arisen from Muhammed's wife, Mildred. Mrs. Muhammed said shared stories of her own fear and story of domestic violence while speaking in Dallas.

Mrs. Muhammad said her ex-husband wanted her dead. So, for her own saftey, she moved across the country to Washington D.C..

"Everybody was scared," she said of the time of the sniper attack. "Everybody was alert. Everybody was watching over their backs."

Mrs. Muhammad said she too was scared.

"So, I was in hiding," she said. "He had to find me. It's when he found out where I was that he came to the Washington metro area and started the shootings."

Mrs. Muhammad said it all started with domestic violence. After she fled, she said her ex wanted her dead but but needed her death to look random in order to get custody of their kids.

"When my co-worker and I went to work, there was a dark blue car that we passed," she said. "The driver looked at us. The passenger put up a newspaper to hide his idenity. We were fearful of that and that's when we called 911."

That is also when police changed the suspect car description from a white van to a blue car.

Shortly thereafter, ATF agents showed up at her door asking questions about her ex, which was when Mildred said she discovered Muhammad was behind it all.

"Then I realized he was there to kill me and police knew I was the target," she said.

Mrs. Muhammed said her ex-husband planned to kill 17 people and she was supposed to be number 15.
