Fog socks Dallas-Fort Worth drivers
11:57 AM CDT on Tuesday, March 11, 2008
The dense fog that shrouded North Texas Tuesday morning, forcing airport flight delays and cancellations, was lifting by mid-morning and was expected to gone by early afternoon.
“They’re coming up pretty quick,” said National Weather Service forecaster Jason Dunn. “It should be a rapid improvement.”
D/FW Airport spokesman Ken Capps said that as of 8:30 a.m., 20 cancellations and 14 diversions had been reported and departure delays were ranging from 20 to 40 minutes.
Southwest Airlines canceled 40 flights at Love Field, where numerous flights were also delayed. The airport opened to aircraft at 10:30 a.m., and “we feel like we’ll be caught up by about 2 p.m.,” said Ashley Rogers, a Southwest spokesperson.
Earlier in the morning, fog reduced visibility from one mile to zero across North Texas. And traffic was reported moving slowly along many Dallas-Fort Worth area roads.
Forecasters are calling for sunny skies and a high temperature of 68 degrees today, with clouds moving through in the afternoon, followed by clearing tonight.
Mostly clear skies and highs around 70 degrees were expected Tuesday with a chance of returning fog.
“There might be a little bit in the morning,” Dunn said.
