Storms bring hail, outages to Dallas-Fort Worth
12:00 AM CDT on Friday, April 18, 2008
Hail pummeled the Dallas-Fort Worth area Thursday night in a storm that brought heavy rain, isolated flooding and power outages.

The severe weather also swept 80-mph winds into some areas. At least one tornado also was reported.
In Mineral Wells, hail as large as baseballs broke the windshields and light bars of many of the city's 15 police cars, said Capt. Mike McAllester of the city's police department.
"Some were parked on the lot ... and some were patrol units not able to be covered," he said.
Several traffic accidents also occurred during the hailstorm in Mineral Wells, but no major injuries were reported.
Hail also smashed through cars at a Mineral Wells car dealership and left massive dents on the hoods.
A tornado touched down about eight miles north of Aledo, WFAA-TV (Channel 8) reported. A Parker County sheriff's dispatcher said no major damage was reported.
Golf ball-size hail also fell in the Lake Worth and White Settlement area.
Weatherford police Capt. Greg Lance said trees blew over onto roads and power lines fell down. Torrential rain also pummeled the area.
In Irving, Mayor Herbert Gears abruptly adjourned a City Council meeting already in progress to avoid the hail and high winds.
The city took a beating when a major storm passed through last week, damaging or destroying about 1,000 trees.
In North Dallas, drivers in some areas had almost zero visibility due to rain, pea-sized hail and lightning.
About 27,000 homes and businesses across the D-FW area were without power at about 10:45 p.m., said Megan Wright, a spokeswoman for Oncor.
Many were expected to have power restored within a few hours, Ms. Wright said.
About 47 flights were delayed and 13 flights were canceled at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport late Thursday, WFAA reported.
The forecast calls for much more pleasant weather today, with mostly clear skies and a high of about 68 degrees.
Staff writers Brandon Formby and Jennifer LaFleur and WFAA-TV (Channel 8) contributed to this report.
