The Irving City Council on Thursday is expected to vote on a lawsuit settlement with the owners of Spanish Trace Apartments, who sued last year after the Building and Standards Commission ordered the property be vacated. As part of the settlement, the city will waive $24,000 in civil penalties against the owner and will release a lien filed on the property. The owner will spend more than $1 million to renovate the property. The city has made a highly publicized push to bring aging apartments up to code. Owners of some other properties have also filed lawsuits that are still pending in courts.
