12:00 AM CDT on Saturday, May 17, 2008
Dallas Morning News photographer Mona Reeder was among the journalists selected for the 40th annual Robert F. Kennedy Journalism Awards.

In an announcement made Thursday, Ms. Reeder was named the domestic photography winner for a series of photos and text depicting society's "forgotten people."
In "The Bottom Line," Ms. Reeder exposed the frayed social safety net in Texas.
"This award is one of the most important in journalism, and it is right, I think, that Mona won it because she brought such passion and focus to her work," said Bob Mong, editor of The News. "These photos are remarkable in every way and touched so many of our readers."
The RFK Journalism Awards, established in 1968 by a group of reporters covering Robert Kennedy's presidential election, honors outstanding reporting on the lives and strife of disadvantaged people throughout the world.
All RFK recipients will be honored at a ceremony May 27 in Washington, D.C.
Past award recipients from The News include David Leeson, Joe Stefanchik, Steve McGonigle, Ed Timms, William Snyder and Randy Eli Grothe.
