06:12 AM CDT on Thursday, September 21, 2006
America's Sweethearts are heading for Cuba.
The Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders will entertain troops at Guantánamo Bay, site of the U.S. military prison at the center of debate about detention of terrorism suspects.
The tour, organized by the United Service Organizations and Armed Forces Entertainment, will begin Friday and also include Puerto Rico.
Long an icon of American pomp, the cheerleaders will make their 60th overseas tour. Past trips have included Afghanistan, Iraq and Kuwait.
During their time in Cuba and Puerto Rico, squad members will meet military personnel and their families during the day, performing their 75-minute Broadway revue-style show in the evenings.
