2 teenage runaways suspected of prostitution at Dallas massage parlor
08:43 PM CDT on Tuesday, September 30, 2008
Dallas vice and patrol officers descended on a Love Field-area massage parlor Monday and took into custody two runaway girls, ages 14 and 15, who they said had been working as prostitutes.
Acting on a tip from police in Gardena, Calif., the officers also arrested Angelina Soeung, 17, who is accused of compelling prostitution at the Golden Flower spa on Harry Hines Boulevard.
One of the runaways told police that Ms. Soeung bought bus tickets for her to come to Dallas from her home in California, advertised her sexual services on the Internet, and took money the youngster earned from her clients.
"It's not unusual at all for us to find juveniles in these situations," said Senior Cpl. Janice Crowther, a police spokeswoman.
The runaways had been reported missing and were listed with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, police reports said. The girls were not identified because they are juveniles.
Cpl. Crowther said the department is searching for juveniles forced into prostitution through its high-risk victims unit.
"We're finding more of them because we're targeting them. We're seeking them out," she said. "And every prostitute we arrest, we ask if they know of any juveniles who are involved in this."
Police are still looking for a 19-year-old man who they believe may also have been involved in the case, and their investigation continues into the Golden Flower's operators.
Employees at the massage parlor said they were not aware of any wrongdoing.
