Two officers were suspended indefinitely this week as a result of two separate investigations, Fort Worth police said today.

Officer James Hale was suspended indefinitely today after a six-month investigation of accusations of theft and credit card abuse, and fraudulently obtaining prescription drugs, police said.

“We do not consider ourselves above the law nor will we place our heads in the sand when we are faced with those who make poor decisions resulting in unfavorable criticism to our department or city,” said Fort Worth police Lt. Paul Henderson. Indefinite suspension is essentially being fired, he said.

Officer Hale, a 13-year-veteran, was put on restrictive duty in January and later placed on desk duty.

Officer Clinton “Cody” Wyatt, who was accused of driving a police cruiser while intoxicated, was suspended Thursday.

He was found passed out at a Burleson intersection in his cruiser in April, police said. He was a member of the Fort Worth force for five years.

Officer Hale’s criminal case has been referred to the Tarrant County District Attorney’s office. Officer Wyatt’s trial in Johnson County was pending.
