Car chase ends in death for Grand Prairie teen
08:49 AM CDT on Saturday, April 21, 2007
An 18-year-old Grand Prairie man suspected of stealing a car died after leading police on a chase Friday night.
A woman called police about 9:15 p.m. to report that three males had stolen her BMW from in front of her house, Grand Prairie police Sgt. Eric Hansen said.
Police spotted a matching car near Belt Line Road and Warrior Trail. The driver sped west on Warrior Trail and lost control when he hit a dip in the road. The car left the road, struck a line of trees and flipped over, ejecting the driver.
Sgt. Hansen said that the teen, whose name was not released, was alone in the car and that the two other males may have been dropped off.
Along the path of the chase, police found a .40-caliber pistol they believe the driver threw out. No one else was injured in the chase.
