East Dallas

Two men were taken to Baylor University Medical Center Thursday morning after they were shot in what Dallas police were describing as a road rage altercation.

Juan Vasquez, 27, and an unnamed passenger were leaving a gas station in the 7200 block of Ferguson Road about 2:40 a.m. Mr. Vasquez attempted to enter westbound Interstate 30 at the same time as a four-door, maroon Mercury Sable, according to a Dallas police report.

The cars were side by side on the entrance ramp when Mr. Vasquez was forced to stop because the ramp was too narrow for both cars to fit.

A man then exited the Sable and yelled at Mr. Vasquez before pulling a pistol and opening fire on the car. The passenger was struck in the left leg and Mr. Vasquez was shot in the right knee, Dallas police Sgt. Gil Cerda said.

They attempted to drive to a hospital, but had to pull over before the entrance ramp to I-75 because of a flat tire. Both were transported to Baylor and were expected to recover from their injuries, Sgt. Cerda said.
