Alex Rodriguez's wife files for divorce; Bruce Springsteen pays tribute to Madam Marie
12:00 AM CDT on Monday, July 7, 2008
Alex Rodriguez's wife will file for divorce today, according to media reports. Cynthia Rodriguez, who married the New York Yankees star in Dallas in 2002, said the marriage is over because of the All-Star third baseman's extramarital affairs, according to media Web sites.
The reports come just days after A-Rod was linked to Madonna, and Mrs. Rodriguez's subsequent visit to the Paris home of rocker Lenny Kravitz, who denied that anything improper had happened.
Houston attorney Earle Lilly said the star's "relationship with Madonna was the final straw for Mrs. Rodriguez."
Mr. Rodriguez has refused to comment on his relationship with Madonna, who denied any romantic involvement with the slugger in a statement posted Sunday on People.com.
Bruce Springsteen is paying tribute to a boardwalk fortuneteller he made famous in a song.
Madam Marie Castello, who told fortunes on the Asbury Park Boardwalk in New Jersey, died recently. She was 93.
Mr. Springsteen wrote about her in his 1973 song "4th of July, Asbury Park (Sandy)." In a posting on his Web site, he remembers her as a boardwalk fixture. "I'd sit across from her on the metal guard rail bordering the beach, and watched as she led the day-trippers into the small back room where she would unlock a few of the mysteries of their future," he writes. "She always told me mine looked pretty good – she was right."
