DALLAS ARBORETUM

12:00 AM CDT on Friday, August 1, 2008

Looking for a break from the urban jungle without driving too far or spending a ton of money? Plan a trip to the Dallas Arboretum, which is offering $1 weekday admission this month. That's $7 off the regular ticket price for adults. Enjoy the lavish spread of seasonal color (crape myrtles, roses, lantanas, begonias and more). Soak in the design and scale of several individual gardens, such as A Woman's Garden, overlooking White Rock Lake; the Jonsson Color Garden, with its canna and caladium plants; and the Palmer Fern Dell at the edge of the Jonsson Color Garden, showcasing many varieties of ferns in a misty setting. Other elements distinguishing the 66-acre property include the DeGolyer estate, which is on the National Register of Historic Places and is open for free tours.
