Dallas Children's lineup has works for kids and teens

In its 2006-07 season, Dallas Children's Theater will continue to grab the attention of teens and their parents with one hand while offering sweets to youngsters in the other. The lineup includes world premieres and familiar favorites, a zombie shocker, a holiday crowd pleaser and the return of Kathy Burks Theatre of Puppetry Arts. For older audiences: The Secret Life of Girls, Linda Daugherty's play about teen cliques and girl bullying, aims squarely at teens and adults, and includes mature subject matter. World premiere. April 13 to May 6 For littler ones: If You Give a Pig a Party is a musical adapted by Nancy Schaeffer and B. Wolf from the book by Laura Numeroff. World premiere. Sept. 20 to Oct. 29 Night of the Living Dead Scary fun with zombies for teens and adults, adapted by Lori Allen Ohm from the movie by George Romero and John Russo. Oct. 13 to Nov. 4 The Velveteen Rabbit The stuffed-rabbit story for all ages, adapted by Linda Daugherty from the Margery Williams book. Nov. 17 to Dec. 17 The Best Christmas Pageant Ever The "worst kids in the history of the world" return for the annual pageant. At El Centro Theater Dec. 1-17 The Miracle Worker William Gibson's dramatization of the Helen Keller-Annie Sullivan story. Jan. 26 to Feb. 18 The Carnival of the Animals Kathy Burks Theatre of Puppetry Arts presents the B. Wolf adaptation of Saint-Saëns' "zoological fantasy for orchestra." Feb. 2 to March 4. James and the Giant Peach adapted from the magical Roald Dahl story by David Wood. March 16 to April 22. Sleeping Beauty The princess awaits Prince Charming. At El Centro Theater March 2-25. A Midnight Cry by James DeVita follows Lida, a young slave, on the Underground Railroad. May 4-20; it's also DCT's national touring production. Pinkerton!!! Adapted by Linda Daugherty from the Steven Kellogg story about a rambunctious Great Dane pup. World premiere. June 22 to July 22, 2007.
