Didion's memoir headed to Broadway stage

NEW YORK – When writer John Gregory Dunne died suddenly, his wife, Joan Didion, channeled her grief into a compelling and best-selling memoir, The Year of Magical Thinking.

Now a stage version, written by Ms. Didion and starring Vanessa Redgrave, is coming to Broadway, opening March 29 at the Booth Theatre. Preview performances begin March 6 for a six-month engagement.

Magical Thinking will be directed by David Hare, whose latest play, The Vertical Hour, is on view at Broadway's Music Box Theatre.

'Little Dog ' bowing out after three-month run

NEW YORK – The Little Dog Laughed, Douglas Carter Beane's scathing look at Hollywood hypocrisy, will close Feb. 18 after a three-month Broadway run.

The comedy, which stars Julie White as a manipulative Hollywood agent, will have played 22 previews and 112 performances.

Little Dog originally opened last January at off-Broadway's Second Stage Theatre where it earned mostly positive reviews, particularly for Ms. White's performance. It reopened Nov. 13 at Broadway's Cort Theatre where it has struggled to find an audience.
