The CW dawns

By ED BARK / The Dallas Morning News

7th Heaven and Veronica Mars are in, but Everwood is out.

The CW network's first fall lineup borrows heavily from the soon-to-be-defunct UPN and WB networks. Just two new series will populate its six-nights-a-week schedule. Runaway is a drama about a fugitive family in hiding, with Donnie Wahlberg starring as a wrongly accused murderer. The Game, a comedy from Girlfriends creator Mara Brock-Ali, looks for laughs in a pro football setting.

Girlfriends, mainstay of UPN's Monday night "urban" comedy block, will relocate to Sundays with Everybody Hates Chris, All of Us and The Game They are the only comedies on CW's schedule.

Besides Everwood, cancellations include Reba, Half & Half , Eve, Cuts, Pepper Dennis, What I Like About You and Love, Inc.

Veronica Mars, beneficiary of a concerted "Save Our Show" campaign, will be paired with Gilmore Girls on Tuesdays while America's Next Top Model and Beauty and the Geek are set to alternate on Wednesdays.

The surprise renewal is ratings-starved One Tree Hill, which has been on and off WB's schedule throughout its three-season run. WWE Smackdown will continue to wreak havoc on Friday nights.
