New this week on DVD12:00 AM CDT on Friday, August 22, 2008MISS PETTIGREW LIVES FOR A DAY: Frances McDormand and Amy Adams make a glorious double act as Miss Guinevere Pettigrew, unemployed London nanny, and Delysia Lafosse, flighty actress of flexible virtue in need of a governess. A carefully calibrated whirligig spinning off sparks of hilarity, the film is an affectionate homage to 1930s top-hat sophistication and the frivolous glamour of classic screwball comedy. Also starring Ciarán Hinds. Directed by Bharat Nalluri. STREET KINGS: Solid if familiar tale of corrupt cops in a racially divided Los Angeles. Keanu Reeves stars as the conflicted officer who senses something isn't right about the death of his former partner. Neo-noir king James Ellroy co-wrote the script, so you know it's fairly bleak and very violent. Also starring Forest Whitaker, Hugh Laurie and Chris Evans. Directed by David Ayer. DEAL: This latecomer to the card-playing movie game brings nothing new or compelling to the table. Here, a poker newcomer and an old pro face off in a tournament and for the affections of a woman. Starring Burt Reynolds, Bret Harrison and Shannon Elizabeth. Directed by Gil Cates Jr. THE LIFE BEFORE HER EYES: Two high school friends are forced by a gunman to decide which one dies, and the traumatic experience has lasting effects on the survivor (Uma Thurman). Beautifully constructed and shot, the movie builds toward its unexpected, if not exactly mind-blowing, conclusion. Interesting thematic elements aren't delved into very deeply. Also starring Evan Rachel Wood and Eva Amurri. Directed by Vadim Perelman. COMING TUESDAY What Happens in Vegas Redbelt The Little Mermaid: Ariel's Beginning Entourage: Season 4
