Lawsuits are unlikely to stop EDS deal

By VICTOR GODINEZ / The Dallas Morning News

Shareholder lawsuits seeking to stop the sale of Plano-based Electronic Data Systems Corp. to Hewlett-Packard Co. probably won't have any effect on the deal, analysts said Friday after the latest suit was announced.

The most recent suit was filed by Dallas law firm Baron & Budd PC on behalf of the Intermountain Ironworkers Trust Fund. But Joe Vafi, an analyst at Jefferies & Co., said that the current offer from H-P seems fair and that the suits won't go far without the participation of larger shareholders.
