Q: I am new to the area. Just what highway (20, 30, 35, 75, etc) or stretch of exits does the Woodall Rogers Parkway encompass? I have seen TXDOT signs stating different information about Woodall Rogers and it is also mentioned on your traffic reports but I have never seen a TXDOT permanent sign indicating that I am entering or driving on Woodall Rogers, nor would I know how to avoid if suggested. Thank you
A: Welcome to Dallas-Fort Worth, Andy. We hope you are enjoying your new home. Wikipedia has a nice description of the Woodall Rodgers Freeway, named in honor of the former Dallas mayor responsible for the construction of Love Field and the North Central Expressway.
“Spur 366, also named Woodall Rodgers Freeway, is a highway that connects Interstate 35E to Interstate 345 (U.S. Highway 75 / Central Expressway/Interstate 45) in central Dallas. The highway, as part of the downtown freeway loop, also serves as a dividing line between downtown Dallas on the south and the Uptown and Victory Park neighborhoods on the north. Current plans for the Trinity River Project call for Woodall Rodgers to be extended west of I-35E across the Trinity River, where it will connect downtown Dallas to west Dallas. Santiago Calatrava designed the Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge spanning the river. In a separate development, construction has begun on the roofing of the freeway section between Pearl and Akard, turning this area into a park, and thereby connecting the downtown Arts District with Uptown.”
