Q: It always bugged me when All My Children was on the air we were a day behind other markets in the programming.   Now with the replacement show, The Chew, which I am a fan, this show too falls a day behind.  Why is that?  Any holiday show they do now falls after the holiday so those recipes cannot be used.  Please let me know the reasoning behind this, or better yet correct it!

A: Thank you for your thoughtful email. You are correct about the one-day delay or “DB” as we call it. You are also correct that we did the same thing with All My Children dating back to April 1988 in order to accommodate a local Noon newscast.  ABC’s feed schedule is such that if Central Time Zone affiliates like WFAA take their feed, they cannot air a live newscast at Noon each day thus the DB. If we were an EST station, it wouldn’t be an issue, however being a CST station it is. Our mission is to supply our viewers with a steady, reliable stream of news and information, which includes local news each day at Noon. We have approached ABC about an earlier, same-day feed however so far that has not been worked out.  Hope that explains the rationale.

Thank you again for writing.
