Q: Would it be possible for the newsmen out in the field to be able to dress a little more casual in such hot Texas weather.  We feel sorry for them having to wear ties & jackets when the weather is close to 100 degrees.

A: Thank you for the thoughtful email. I guess it depends on what the reporter is doing that day. For example, if they are in a courtroom, or interviewing a public official, “ties & jackets,” as you suggest, is appropriate. If he or she are traipsing around outdoors for hours in the heat, common sense would suggest that they dress appropriately.

This is all to say that we would leave this to the best judgment of the reporter or anchor involved. Television is a visual medium, so we should be mindful of that, however not to the point where anyone is in danger.

Thank you for taking the time to write, and for the concerned email.
