Q: I was writing because I was thinking about the Children's Medical Center special that was on television several months ago. Dr. Alex Cain (whom you followed on the show) and Dr. Christopher Derderian are surgeons in the craniofacial plastic surgery center at Children's. These two amazing gentlemen are my son's doctors. They performed an amazing new procedure in plastics called MedPore. It's the first one to be performed here at this Children's in Dallas. My son was born with a cauliflower ear called Microtia on his left side...basically he had little to no ear at all with no kind of opening. Dr. Derderian, our primary physician, did such a fantastic job in researching this new procedure. He went so far as to travel to go see it performed on someone. He kept us fully informed on the reason why he wanted to postpone the original procedure for the MedPore. I felt really knowledgeable because of his research and information but I really still didn't know what to expect as far as results. After a grueling nearly 14 hours after they started that morning both doctors came out to talk with us and show us pictures taken before they stitched a covered dressing in place that will be removed for everyone to see. These two men performed their magic and you couldn’t ask for something to look more perfect or real. I am absolutely astonished and can’t wait for my son to see what these men did for him.
A: Thank you for taking the time to write and share such encouraging news. The special you referred to was called “Children’s Med: Dallas,” and it provided a rare glimpse inside the lives and halls of one of the real treasures in our area: Children’s Medical Center. Hope all continues to improve!
