Well blow my dress up! With two couples being eliminated on Week 3, I was just sure that Bristol’s number was finally up… but it was not to be. Helio and Chelsie. had to make like bananas and split much to my disappointment. If Helio had not stepped on Chelsie’s dress and tripped during their quickstep would they have been able to avoid elimination? Who knows?? As they say if “ifs and buts” were candy and nuts we would all have a Merry Christmas! Whether or not the stumble was the deciding factor for voters at this point we will never know. I just know that Santa’s sleigh didn’t deliver the gift of another week for them and I am really going to miss Helio. What a fun guy!
Also making like a tree and leaving were Drew and Anna but I think that they were surprised. Later on during an interview on a talk show Anna said she felt like they had been robbed but Drew took the bad news like a trooper saying that voters get to decide who stays and apparently his time was up. I was somewhat surprised at his good attitude regarding elimination because on the very first show he was already calling out Joey as being a main contender along with himself to make it to the finals. Besides not having a future-predicting crystal ball Drew won’t be adding the Season 15 mirror ball to his collection either. Sorry Charlie!
With the new twist this week of adding dances never before seen on Dancing With the Stars we were able to see the claws come out on some the stars. Since each team chose a dance for another team they could either choose a dance they thought their competitors would be happy with or choose one that they knew would not be easy for that team to perform. For example it was obvious that Bristol was a bit smirkish choosing “Bollywood” for Giles and Peta thinking that it would be most difficult to compete with but that little strategy definitely came back to bit them on the tail! They were awesome! Gilles looked like a human mirror ball in his golden costume in addition to his perfectly applied signature DWTS spray tan. Seriously, as if the dude isn’t eye candy enough on any given day! Wow! Their performance was every bit as fabulous as their appearance with the team receiving a score of 10 from every judge except Len who gave them a 9.5. What the heck, Len??
Tied with Gilles and Peta this week with a total score of 39.5 are Shawn and Derek with their knock our socks off version of the Mambo. These kids are just magnetic and I seem to like them more and more each week. Their fabulous quickstep was the encore dance chosen by the judges last week. This week Derek and Shawn travelled to Des Moines, Iowa to get some input from the Fab Five Women’s Olympic gymnastics team and I am just going out on a limb here predicting that McKayla Maroney will be a future contestant on DWTS. That little chickadee could really bust a move!
Yikes! Apolo and Karina had a brush with disaster while performing their Hip Hop dance. Karina was a bit of a basket case at the end of their performance crying and apologizing saying that she had “messed up their dance”. It was apparent that something had gone awry with her footing and with Apolo’s synchronized tearing off of his microphone pack but they never missed a beat. Even with a DVR replay I didn’t think that it seemed to be reason enough for all the drama and gasps from the “celebraquarium” until I watched WFAA’s own “Ron Corning in the Morning” newscaster who was on assignment in LA covering DWTS (Boy would I love to have that gig!!). Ron showed an unedited clip of that dance obviously made with a different camera and ouch!! Karina actually fell hard and busted her fanny!! It seems that all’s well that ends (no pun intended!) well. They received a judge’s total score of 34.5 which didn’t even place them at the bottom (Oops, another fanny pun!) of the leader board which I am happy about.
For a full view of the judges’ leaderboard containing every couple’s score as well as video clips of individual performances visit http://beta.abc.go.com/shows/dancing-with-the-stars/. I’ll keep you informed with my “bird’s eye view” (after all my name is Robin!) of the latest DWTS info. Check back next week!
